JACKSON HEIGHTS MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A CHILD RELATIVE

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Edgar Chalco was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a child relative beginning when the girl was 5 years old.

District Attorney Katz said: “A child should be able to trust family and know that they are safe. Instead, this young victim was horrifically abused. Today’s sentence should provide a measure of closure for the victim and be a step in the healing process.”

Chalco, 42, of 92^nd Street in Jackson Heights, was convicted by a jury last month of course sexual conduct against a child in the first degree.

Supreme Court Justice Karen Gopee sentenced Chalco to 20 years in prison. Chalco will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

According to the charges and trial testimony:

• During the period from June 1, 2010, through approximately January 2012, when the victim was between 5 and 7 years old, Chalco sexually assaulted her multiple times, including instances of oral sexual conduct, inside her home.
• The victim disclosed additional sexual abuse through 2017, when she was 12 years old, that took place at Chalco’s home.

Assistant District Attorney Lauren Parson, Deputy Bureau Chief of the District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau, prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys Eric C. Rosenbaum, Bureau Chief, Debra Lynn Pomodore and Brian Hughes, Deputy Bureau Chiefs, and under the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Special Prosecutions Division Joyce A. Smith.
